NICE Delirium Guideline- Diagnosis, Prevention and Management

A 2 year project to prepare a clinical guideline on the diagnosis, prevention and management of delirium by the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence in England and Wales has resulted in the publication of the guidelines below

The advice in the NICE guideline covers the care of adults (18 and over) with, or at risk of, delirium in hospital and in long-term residential care or a nursing home.

It does not look at people receiving end-of-life care, or people under the influence of or withdrawing from drugs or alcohol, or people with delirium associated with drugs or alcohol. NICE has published separate advice for the care of people with alcohol-related physical health problems, including delirium related to alcohol use (known as delirium tremens).
